I’m Martina, a nutritional therapist.
I qualified as a Nutritional Therapist following 3 years of study at the College of Naturopathic Medicine (CNM) in Birmingham. At CNM I was trained in the principles of functional medicine, a science-based method that assesses the underlying causes of symptoms.
The course was very in-depth, with a particular focus on nutritional science. During the three years of study, I had the privilege of being lectured by some of the world’s leading figures in Nutrition, as well as taking part in over 200 hours of clinical practice. Since graduating from CNM, I have supported many individuals with a range of health concerns.
I am a fully insured and registered practitioner with the British Association for Nutrition and Lifestyle Medicine (BANT), Association of Naturopathic Practitioners (ANP) and the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC). I regularly attend conferences, workshops and seminars, and subscribe to medical journals to keep up-to-date with the very latest in nutritional research.
The following are some of the seminars and conferences I attended in the last few months:
'Gut Health' organised by IHCAN
'Alzheimer's' conference organised by IHCAN
'Adaptive health' seminar organised by BioCare
'Danger cell response' seminar organised by ANP
'The Future of Breast cancer' webinar organised by Hifas da Terra
'Fungal Infections: Natural Therapies' by Rio Health
'Updated guidelines for assessing and supporting SIBO symptoms' by Genova
passion for nutrition developed many years ago when I was diagnosed with
GERD. Even though, this is a common condition that many people
suffer with, it can be really challenging to get diagnosed due to the
fact it can not only present with the typical GERD symptoms but many
other symptoms which can mask this particular condition.
It took several years before I was diagnosed with GERD, but I am grateful that conventional medicine has been able to offer a surgical solution for me. Even though the outcome was successful, I realised that I had to make changes in order to get better. Self care and self awareness are very important to reaching a fulfilling and healthy life.
I started researching how I could help myself - how we as human beings digest food and how food and nutrients can affect us and what impact nutrition has on the other system of our body. I learned how food can influence either progression or suppression of certain medical conditions.
My personal experience has given me a really good foundation for understanding what clients go through on a daily basis and how best to support them.
I continue to study in order to enrich my knowledge as everything to do with health interests me - How we breathe, hydration of the cells, absorption of nutrients from the food we eat, how the thoughts we have, the amount of sunlight we absorb, the toxic soup we are exposed to everyday can affect our health and how this toxic overload can be reduced and detoxified - dental amalgams, electro smog (radiation), food intolerances, cooking methods and equipment used, nutritional deficiencies, farming methods, food manufacturing processes, soil depletion, GM foods.
